Shared Rule of Life for Life Church Membership
While the members of Life Church are diverse in our experiences, callings, and seasons of life, we share a common commitment to an intentional way of living; historically known as a rule of life. "Rule of Life" is now the common term for a framework of intentional Christian living. Spiritual Disciplines are practices a disciple of Jesus can engage to intentionally allow the Holy Spirit to form their life more and more into the image of Christ over their lifetime.
This rule of life is an invitation to living on purpose by engaging a set of balanced and sustainable practices that create space for the Holy Spirit to continually form us into the image of Christ, both as individuals and as a community. These practices, often called spiritual disciplines, are not requirements for earning God’s love or belonging in the church. They are shared rhythms we freely engage according to our capacity, season, and calling.
Practiced open-handedly and without guilt, these disciplines help us lives into the invitation of Colossians 2:6-7, which says, "So then, just as you have received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to walk in him, being rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, and overflowing with gratitude."
These practices fall into four categories, each with key disciplines within:
Life With God (Attending to God's presence)
Daily Scripture Reading
Prayer
Life Together (Formed as Christ's Body)
Community
Confession & Forgiveness
Celebration
Service
Life On Mission (Loving our neighbors)
Outreach
Stewardship / Generosity
Life With Balance (Sustaining a faithful life)
Sabbath
Fasting & Unplugging
Silence & Solitude
